CGD Roofing Standing Seam

Province-wide

Standing Seam Metal Roofing Contractors in Ontario

CGD Roofing fabricates, supplies and installs standing seam metal roofing throughout Ontario. We are based in Barrie with our own roll-forming equipment, which means panels are made on your property rather than ordered, shipped and lapped.

Coverage: Based in Barrie, working province-wide. Larger projects justify mobilisation almost anywhere in Ontario.

Our density is highest through Simcoe County, Muskoka, Grey Bruce, the Kawarthas, York Region and the GTA. Beyond that, mobilisation is a question of project size — a full residential re-roof or a commercial building anywhere in southern Ontario is worth the trip, and we will tell you plainly if a job is too small to serve you well from Barrie.

Ontario's climate is the reason standing seam has moved from a premium specification to the default for anyone planning to stay in their home. Between the Georgian Bay and Huron snowbelts, eastern Ontario's ice storms and the freeze-thaw cycling that runs through the whole province from November to April, asphalt shingles here deliver a fraction of the life they are rated for in a milder climate.

What we specify differently in Ontario

A metal roof is not one product. These are the conditions that change the assembly here.

A climate that eats asphalt

Ontario shingles rated for 30 years commonly need replacing in 15–20. Repeated freeze-thaw, ice damming and UV loading age them far faster than the test conditions behind that rating. A 24 gauge standing seam roof in the same conditions is a 40+ year assembly.

No fasteners through the weather surface

This is the entire argument. Exposed-fastener metal puts thousands of rubber-washered screws through the water plane; each one is a maintenance item and eventually a leak. Standing seam uses concealed clips beneath a folded seam, so the surface water crosses is unbroken.

Thermal movement designed in

A 30-foot steel panel changes length measurably between a January night and a July afternoon. Concealed clips let it slide; a screwed-down panel cannot, so it either elongates its own fastener holes or oil-cans. Ontario's annual temperature swing makes this a first-order design issue, not a footnote.

How we build it in Ontario

Three levels of assembly, quoted the same way everywhere we work — from a measured survey, never a rate card. What moves a quote is your roof, not your postcode.

  • Choice of 24 or 26 gauge steel
  • Snow retention assessment mapped to your roof

Best for: Most Ontario homes — our most-specified system

  • Custom chimney caps, coping and box eavestrough
  • Double-lock 180° seams throughout
  • Concealed-fastener detailing at every transition

Best for: Chalets, heritage homes, complex or highly visible rooflines

Every project is quoted from a site visit or drone survey — roof complexity, tear-off versus overlay, gauge, finish and access all move the number, and none of them can be assessed from a postcode.

Ontario metal roofing questions

How much does a standing seam metal roof cost in Ontario?

It depends on five things, none of which are your postcode: roof complexity, whether the old roof comes off or gets strapped over, panel gauge, finish, and how easily material reaches the site. We quote from a measured survey rather than a rate card, because a per-square-foot number given before anyone has seen the deck is a figure that gets revised later.

Where in Ontario do you work?

Our core areas are Simcoe County, Muskoka, Grey Bruce, Kawartha Lakes, York Region and the GTA. We travel further for larger residential and commercial projects — call with the location and scope and we will give you a straight answer on whether we are the right fit.

Is standing seam worth it over shingles in Ontario?

On a house you intend to keep more than fifteen years, yes on straight arithmetic. One standing seam roof outlasts roughly three asphalt replacements, and you avoid two rounds of tear-off, disposal and a week of disruption each time. If you are selling in three years, the maths is different and we will say so.
