Standing Seam vs Metal Shingles in Ontario
Both are metal roofing and both outlast asphalt. One is a continuous panel, the other hundreds of interlocking pieces. How each handles Ontario snow, slope and looks.
Service area
Orillia has an unusually high proportion of pre-war housing for its size, particularly through the older streets between downtown and Couchiching Beach. Those homes have steep pitches, dormers, bay windows and turret details that factory-cut metal simply cannot wrap cleanly.
Coverage: Half an hour from the Barrie shop, comfortably inside our no-travel-charge zone.
On-site fabrication is what makes metal viable on that housing stock. We brake flashings to the actual measured geometry, so a turret or a bay gets a fitted metal detail rather than an oversized off-the-shelf trim bridged across it.
We also work the newer development on the west side, the waterfront properties along Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe, and out through Severn, Washago and Ramara.
A metal roof is not one product. These are the conditions that change the assembly here.
Steep Victorian pitches, turrets and bay windows are where stock trim looks worst. Everything we fit is bent to measured dimensions on site, which keeps flashing profiles tight to the form instead of boxing it out.
Sitting between Simcoe and Couchiching, Orillia gets meaningful lake-effect and holds humidity. Ventilated strapping under the panel is worth specifying on most Orillia homes for exactly that reason.
Standing seam installation, metal roof repairs, custom fabrication and roof inspections throughout Orillia and surrounding areas.
Three levels of assembly, quoted the same way everywhere we work, from a measured survey, never a rate card. What moves a quote is your roof, not your postcode.
Direct installation
Panels formed on site and installed over sound existing roof boards. The straightforward option when the structure underneath is already in good shape.
Best for: Sound decks, simple rooflines, budget-led projects
Quote the Silver systemStrapped & ventilated
Adds a strapped substrate that creates a ventilated cavity under the panel, the assembly that actually addresses ice damming rather than hiding it.
Best for: Most Ontario homes. The one we would put on our own houses
Quote the Gold systemArchitectural grade
Full architectural detailing in 24 gauge with a PVDF finish. For heritage homes, custom builds, and anything where the roof is a design element.
Best for: Chalets, heritage homes, complex or highly visible rooflines
Quote the Platinum systemEvery project is quoted from a site visit or drone survey, roof complexity, tear-off versus overlay, gauge, finish and access all move the number, and none of them can be assessed from a postcode.
Standing seam is historically appropriate, folded metal roofing predates asphalt shingles considerably. The detail that matters is scale: a 16" panel width with narrow ribs reads correctly on a Victorian roof, where a wide agricultural profile does not.
